Miz Art # 5 ~ Bill Abright
Your Miz Art for this week is to explore Bill Abright's website: www.billabright.com. After viewing all of his artwork, pick a favorite. Describe this artwork in such vivid detail that anyone can guess which artwork is your favorite. If I cannot tell which artwork you are describing, you must do the assignment over.
Here is an example (I will be describing "Sedation"):
“Sedation” by Bill Abright is an extremely large mask-like clay sculpture. The face is an imperfect oval in shape, has closed eyes, an elongated nose, visible cheekbones and a marbled cream and orange glaze. Perched upon the top of his head are six birds which appear to be pecking the man’s forehead and temples. His facial expression is peaceful even though he is being picked apart by the tiny winged creatures. Where the birds have pecked, and are continuing to peck, there are a few spots of black splotchy glaze suggesting that they are eating away at him and creating holes. The bird furthest on the right side is placed delicately and looking upon the side of the man’s face as if in serious contemplation. The bird above has it’s red head tilted to look towards the viewer. The contrast between the warm colors of the face and the dark values of the birds, draw the eyes toward the top of the sculpture. After the eyes move from the semi-circle of feathered friends, they travel down towards the sedated and calm expression of the man.
Bill Abright's work is quite a treat. So enjoy this Miz Art - you are going to see some amazing work by a contemporary artist!
