Glazing Your Bisque-ware

After your clay is fired the first time it becomes bisque-ware. At this point you can glaze your piece.

Read the directions on the individual glaze bottles. Most glazes require three coatings, but some may require less. Make sure you shake and then stir the glaze thoroughly before applying it. Use the designated teal glaze brushes for the application.

Even though the color of the glaze seems different than what you want when it is first applied, remember that the glaze undergoes a chemical transformation during the firing and will change color. Use the glaze testers to determine which colors would look good on your piece.

Think about how you want your piece to look. Remember all that we've learned about color. You can place complementary colors next to each other to create visual impact and to draw the viewers' eyes.

Venice in a Day! Timelapse Video

Venice in a Day
by Joerg Niggli Plus

A day in Venice (Venezia) in Italy, from daybreak to sunset in timelapse. It's really a great place and I hope I can share some of its magic with this short video.

Some technical specs: Shot mainly with my trusty Canon G10 (and not a G12, like I wrote here first). Post in Motion, After Effects and Final Cut Pro X.

Welcome, Charlie Burnell!

My little brother and his wife had their second child almost two weeks ago. I'm so proud! My nephew, Tommy, is such a great big brother! I have to share the joy! Here are a few photos:

For you photo fans, here is how I shot these images: I used my Nikon D300 and a 35 mm 1.8 lens. I used mostly 1.8 to 4.0 apertures at 640 ISO for indoor light. I also used my Canon with a Lensbaby for a couple of shots.

500 Posts and almost 15,000 Clicks! Whoo hoo!

WARNER MUSIC 2010
During the first month of the year 2010, a group of 9 brave soldiers worked for 30 days straight, without seeing the light of day inside a secret dungeon located in Los Angeles, California. Their task was to gather 90 handmade cookies, sugar, milk, flour, chocolate, eggs and dough; and utilize them to create a 4 minute stop motion video for a foreign artist whose lyrics still remain unknown. They disappeared for 6 weeks and just recently emerged out of the darkness with a small floppy disk containing this:

Day of Silence Tomorrow

Thank you to Mrs. Blaisdell for sharing this! We will both be silent tomorrow. Join us!

Melvin the Mini Machine

Info:

Early 2012, HEYHEYHEY had some time to spare and they felt the need to challenge themselves once again, so they set out to build another one of their chain reaction machines called Melvin.

Conveniently built in two old suitcases, Melvin the Mini Machine is a Rube Goldberg machine specifically designed to travel the world. Each time Melvin fully completes a run, he ‘signs’ a postcard and sticks a stamp to it - making it ready to be sent.

Like its bigger brother, Melvin the Mini Machine also has an online non-physical side which he uses to connect to the people he meets. To keep things truly mobile Melvin uses a smartphone for his online identity.
